The project ")( IN BETWEEN" was started in July 2008, for C INTERNATIONAL PHOTO MAGAZINE No 8 in the C ACTION section.
All images are original Polaroids, using expired pack film 669 and ID-UV, shot with the 350 and 360 Polaroid Land Camera.
Currently the accessible series keeps about 50 Polaroids.
8 of them were carefully and caringly selected for C MAGAZINE.
These exclusively selected images will also be part of the internationally traveling C Photo exhibition.

After weeks of theorizing, sketching and preparation the first Polaroids were shot in July 2008 in Malta, as well as in Umbria and Tuscany, also including Rome, in Italy. Following long days of intense work with Nela Adam, the originals
(almost 200 Polaroids) were unfortunately stolen on the train way to the Roman Airport to fly to Vienna in late August, resulting in Police station discussions, missed flights, long phone calls and frustration.
These images' fate is still unknown. Maybe some hang on someone's wall or were given away. Or simply destroyed. I do like the idea that some might still travel through different hands.
The next weeks were filled with immense struggles to organize a new shooting. To attempt to repeat the same shooting seemed absurd. Trying to create completely new work was the only way to be open during the process and to meet the eadline.
Had the images in Italy not been stolen, this project would never have turned out the way it has. Pressure was so intense (3 weeks) that only adrenaline, passion and friends could make it happen.
Finally the new and accessible images of )( IN BETWEEN were created in England (London and Whistable) and Wales Swansea and Maesteg).
* Chronology and combination of the Polaroids are open.
* The recipient can create and (re-)organize their order and thus their story, can create an encounter of ist subjects "in between" the images or seperate them, can make them protagonists or antagonists.
* The project is infinite as it is alive; it grows and changes, expands and developes.
* Losing the first part of the IN BETWEEN project perfectly shows its autonomous life. A hidden story only 3 people saw..and who knows how many others saw parts of it after it was stolen and scattered?

„[...] Focusing on the individual and the subjective I identify and confront the borders of privacy and public, of inside and outside, the hidden and the exposed and thus inevitably deal with mankind as a collective. Corresponding to metaphysical questions and humanly inherent conflicts, wishes, needs, fears and questions I directly touch complex spheres of emotion and thought. As the individual lives within a context, all social and political aspects, tradition, culture, history, topicality and nature – which are interconnected inseparably from the individual - are all intrinsic elements. I find it unfathomable to deal with the human mind, soul and emotion detached from the body, as it is especially the physical that connects the inside with the outside. [...]“

POLAROID
„In my working-process I am driven to create a balance between coincidence and the unpredictable on one hand and the precisely planned and controlled on the other in order to deal with human life's complexities substantially. Polaroid film allows me to combine chance and control, mind and physicality as well as momentariness and infinity.“

“The artist from Germany has the almost magical power to polarize
people, no matter what she is doing. Seemingly breezing and at the same time self-destructively obsessed she absorbs almost everything surrounding her, building a very intense personal universe of outrageous powerful creativity, deep thoughts and dreams.
[...] She always seeks for her limits, crossing boarders with a smile on her face. Sáile loves to provoke, but in a very sophisticated often fragile way, not consciously hurting but faithfully disturbing the viewer and herself by revealing deepest insights to the ones that take the time to inhale her hidden messages.
[…] Many of Sáile's work and pictures seem to be fragile, melancholic
and full of pain and silent sorrow. But the deeper you get to these images, the more you discover that behind this seemingly obvious curtain of visible calmness Sáile's pictures are full of hidden secrets and hints, just waiting to be carefully discovered and caressed.
