01. NATIONAL MUSEUM OF FINE ART
S I L E N C E
PHOTOGRAPHIC EXHIBITION BY LIA SÁILE
23rd of May - 8th of June 2008, Malta.
Within 5 months the exhibition "SILENCE" was organized from abroad (Vienna) and finally opened in the beautiful Loggia of the
National Museum of Fine Arts, South Street, Valletta, the capital of Malta, on the 23rd of May in 2008 with about 30-40 guests and the two displayed models Nela Adam and Marlene Kelnreiter present, who flew in from Paris and Iceland.
The exhibits are 11 Polaroids which were enlarged carefully, then
exposed on high quality photo paper and finally mounted on Aluminium plates.
The Loggia is not just any place to exhibit at. When I saw the space in Autumn 2007 I
immediately fell in love and knew
these Polaroids would either be displayed there or nowhere; Within this sheltered inner courtyard no noise of the
outside world disrupts the silence, though it opens up highly to the sky. Only the sound of water from a small fountain centered in the court quietly supports the place's calm yet energetic atmosphere.
The almost sacred tranquility reminds of a temple, in which our footsteps echo softly when entering.

THANK YOU: Thanks goes out to Sandro Debono, Senior curator and Dennis Vella, curator of Modern Art at the National Museum of Fine Art of Malta,
who offered the opportunity and made this exhibition possible.
Furthermore these pictures would not have materialized in such majestic size and quality without the aid of my dear friends and generous supporters Noel Borg,
Salvu Catania, Florian Kaps and Anthony Catania, who helped with organisation and realisation.
Thank you kindly to Christiane Stelberg and Denise Scicluna for photographically documenting my Opening Reception and to Marika Azzopardi for
the aricle in THE TIMES.
This list would be incomplete without a deep thank you to Marlene Kelnreiter and Nela Adam for their patience, endurance and strong will braving the heat, sun, humidity and various facettes of physical exhaustion.

03. OPENING RECEPTION / VERNISSAGE
23rd of May '08
7 PM - 10 PM
I would like to grasp the opportunity and thank everyone from my the bottom of my heart for
coming to my Opening Reception on that Friday and for making the evening such a relaxed, warm and intellectually stimulating gathering.
Many familiar but also unfamilar, expected and unexpected smiling faces filled the Loggia's space, it was a beautiful atmosphere of steady "coming and going",
a continuous calm movement throughout the night which kept the space from becoming too crowded or static.
And at the same time many people honoured me with their presence until the end when the museum was
closed. Thank you!
